I just went here for the second time. Don’t really remember the first but this time was good. Our chef was entertaining but not overbearing. The food was also really good. More expensive than the average meal but worth the experience.
I thought Osaka was a great place to celebrate a special occasion, date or anniversary. It’s nice to know that Cedar Rapids has a diverse place like this. The atmosphere is great and the food is good. This is not a place you would want to go to all the time because it is a little pricey..the dinner dishes average about $20.00 a plate. They have reservations where they cook the food in front of you. I would recommend Osaka if you want to experience something different in cedar rapids.
The hibachi show gets old quickly (if you’ve seen it at least twice, you’ve seen it all).
This review spans two separate visits: one during lunch, and one during a birthday dinner. Both times we had a very unfriendly waitress (she wears glasses) who makes no effort to satisfy her customers, beyond bringing out your food, which is bare minimum. Additionally, she was combative. She argued with my girlfriend about the sauce. Instead of taking it back, she insisted that it was the same sauce they’ve always used, which we knew was not true.
Onto the food – normally the food is decent, but we ordered sushi during lunch, which did not go well. The sushi still had a little plastic on it, and looked like a third-grader threw it together. Worse yet, our hibachi chef explained that the sushi had come from Hy-Vee. I don’t know if that was his attempt at humor, but we clearly were in no mood for jokes.
The service and food certainly do not warrant the price, so it must be the atmosphere, which I admit is above-average in Cedar Rapids.
In conclusion, Osaka is tolerable, but I would much rather dine at Oyama Sushi on Council, which is owned by the same people.
